about
The Artist
Drawing and painting have been a constant in Amanda's life since she was a young girl. As with many traditionally trained artists her persuits began with intensive drawing; however, when Amanda reached her teens she was put off by conventional art instruction. She briefly studied art at North Georgia College in 1995 before deciding to change her major and transfer to the University of Georgia.
Ten years later, in London, Amanda was lucky enough to earn a commission for a book cover, and decided to give art school another try. She studied on a small, 1 year course, at Kensington and Chelsea College and recieved a diploma in Creative Painting/Drawing.
Passion is the key to Amanda's art and she only paints what moves her on an emotional level. Color is one of her long standing passions. Many of Amanda's early works were abstract and used a combination of bold, intense colour with stark textures to evoke an emotional response. This is still a theme that Amanda returns to from time to time.
Amanda's other great passion is the natural world. Her subjects sometimes vary from the microscopic to the expanse of the universe, and often reflect influences from Amanda's life. In recent years Amanda has turned her attention to 'earth' or more literally stones, rocks, and pebbles. Rock collecting has been an enjoyable hobby for Amanda since she was 10 years old and its no surprise she took the odd geology course at UGA.
In her spare time, Amanda is a freelance web designer; specializing in websites for other artists and arts organizations at affordable prices. Amanda is able to take her creative skills and apply them to original and dynamic page designs.
Amanda has just returned to Athens, Georgia after living in the United Kingdom for 4 years. Please excuse the mess while she makes some much needed changes to her web gallery.
